Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress party of politicizing the AI Impact Summit, alleging that it resorted to “gandi aur nangi” politics instead of engaging constructively in discussions about artificial intelligence.
The summit was organized to bring together policymakers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and industry stakeholders to explore AI’s transformative potential. Discussions reportedly covered ethical AI development, regulatory mechanisms, data governance, and opportunities for startups.
In his address, PM Modi stated that India stands at the forefront of digital transformation. He cited advancements in digital payments, startup ecosystems, and research collaborations as evidence of the country’s growing technological strength. According to him, the AI Impact Summit was meant to accelerate these efforts and position India as a responsible global leader in AI.
He criticized Congress for allegedly attempting to score political points during the event. “Technology should unite us in national development, not divide us for electoral gains,” he said.
Congress representatives have countered that questioning government initiatives is a legitimate part of democracy. They maintain that technology policy cannot be separated from issues such as privacy, employment impact, and institutional accountability.
