Govind Singh Sikarwar, CEO of OBI9 and a passionate advocate for children’s literature, recently spoke about the vital role that comics play in fostering early literacy skills. In an interview, Sikarwar emphasized how the combination of visuals and text in comics makes reading more accessible and engaging for young learners.

“Comics bridge the gap between pictures and words, making them a perfect stepping stone for children who are just beginning to read,” said Sikarwar. “The vibrant illustrations capture their attention, while the concise text helps them build vocabulary and comprehension skills.”

He further explained that comics offer a unique opportunity to develop visual literacy, a crucial skill in today’s image-saturated world. By interpreting visual cues and understanding the relationship between images and text, children enhance their overall literacy and critical thinking abilities.

Sikarwar’s own publishing house, OBI9, is well-known for its iconic comic series like Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle, which have entertained and educated generations of Indian children. He believes that comics have the power to ignite a lifelong love of reading and should be embraced as valuable tools in early childhood education.

“Comics are not just fun and entertaining,” Sikarwar concluded. “They are powerful educational resources that can nurture a passion for learning and pave the way for future academic success.”
