Chindambaram said, “Modi came up with the idea of Sansad Bhawan because of his own private project. Chindambaram questioned the government about not inviting President Draupadi Murmu to the inauguration of the Parliament House. According to Article 79 of the Constitution of India, the President, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are the principal constituents of Parliament. Inauguration of Parliament House is not an important matter. However, it is important to have an open discussion in Parliament, have a good debate and consider the views of the opposition parties. However, Prime Minister Modi did not call the President for the inauguration. Also the opposition parties were not invited.” (Parliament inauguration)
Rahul Gandhi tweeted after the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building. In it he wrote, “Parliament is the voice of the people! The Prime Minister is treating the inauguration of Parliament House as a coronation.” The Congress had boycotted the inauguration ceremony saying that the new Parliament building should be inaugurated by the President and not by the Prime Minister.
