Pune : In the last five years, 1 lakh 35 thousand 103 accidents have occurred on various highways in the state, in which 59 thousand 546 people have died, while 77 thousand 393 motorists have been seriously injured. Therefore, the issue of safe road travel of motorists has come to the fore again. The state has a total of 18 national highways and many state highways. The total length of all these highways is 33,705 km.
Every day lakhs and crores of vehicles are transported through it. The number of accidents is increasing day by day due to various problems on the highway and violation of traffic rules by the drivers. Therefore, it has become necessary for the state government to pay serious attention to this and take concrete measures.
A decrease in accidental deaths this year
In the five months of last year from January to May 2022, 6 thousand 915 motorists lost their lives in accidents. In the current year period from January to May 2023, there has been some decrease in it, 6 thousand 437 drivers lost their lives.
We have issued strict instructions to all Superintendents of Police in the state to reduce accidents on highways. Also, school students are being informed about road accidents by going to schools. The police have been trained on how to create public awareness about road accidents. Along with this, the black spots on the highway are being reduced. Also, the crackdown on helmets for bikers has been intensified.

These measures are necessary
Speed limit of vehicles should be reduced
Proper driving training
Black spot removal
There should be a strict test while granting the license
Heavy fine should be imposed on unlicensed drivers.
Fitness check of vehicles should be done from time to time.
Old heavy vehicles that have reached the end of their useful lives should be scrapped immediately.
