Jabalpur: Rescue teams remained engaged in massive search operations at Bargi Dam after a tourist cruise accident killed nine people and left several others injured. The heartbreaking incident occurred when a cruise vessel overturned in the reservoir waters near Jabalpur district.
According to police officials, the boat encountered trouble during an evening ride carrying tourists across the scenic reservoir. Preliminary reports indicate that changing weather conditions and possible imbalance caused the vessel to lose stability.
Passengers onboard screamed for help as the boat began sinking rapidly. Several tourists jumped into the water in panic while others became trapped inside the vessel. Fishermen nearby responded immediately and managed to rescue multiple passengers before emergency services arrived.
Teams from SDRF, district police, and disaster management units launched coordinated rescue operations using motorboats, divers, and floodlights. Nine bodies have been recovered so far, while search efforts continue for those unaccounted for.
Hospital authorities confirmed that many rescued passengers suffered injuries, shock, and breathing complications after remaining underwater for prolonged periods. Counselors were also deployed to assist traumatized family members.
