Sangli; Leading News Service: The dry port in Sangli district has been suspended forever. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust has made such a disclosure in the Right to Information, said Satish Sakhalkar, a social worker and chairman of the All Party Action Committee.

He said, an announcement was made regarding setting up a dry port in Sangli district. I asked the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust what happened to it. It has been disclosed that Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) signed an MoU with the Government of Maharashtra in April 2018. Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) was nominated by the government as the nodal agency for land acquisition in April 2018 to assist JNPA in land acquisition and development of dry port at Sangli.

Currently the land acquisition process was stopped based on the guidelines issued by Ministry of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, CBIC Division (CBIC) for setting up of ICD/CFS/AFS on November 5, 2020 for establishment of Dryport. .
Under Section 4.1.2, the Customs Department has classified the States into zones based on the existing number of ICDs and future requirements. Accordingly, Maharashtra has been classified under Red Zone (large number of existing ICDs). And therefore it is stated that no new ICD/CFS (Dry Port) shall be allowed in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, MP Sanjay Patil recently held a meeting regarding setting up of a dry port in the Ministry of Mumbai. It was said that a place will be provided at Salgare. Will there be a triport in the district now that the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust has made this disclosure? There is a doubt about this.
