Leaders Online Desk: India’s top badminton player HS Prannoy has entered the quarterfinals of the Taipei Open 2023. The Indian player, ranked No. 9 in the Badminton world, defeated Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto 21-9, 21-17 to reach the next round of the BWF Super 300 event.

HS Prannoy recently won the Malaysia Masters 2023 title. After that he has landed in Taipei Open and here too he has maintained his brilliant form. In Thursday’s Round of 16 match, he got off to a great start, winning the first game one-sidedly against an Indonesian player. Matra was given a tough fight by opponent Tommy Sugiarto in the second game of the match. HS Prannoy trailed 10-3. However, the Indian player then made a tremendous comeback to tie the game at 15-15.

After 36 minutes in the match, HS Prannoy took advantage of his rhythm and gave the Indonesian no chance to make a comeback and won the match in straight games to seal his place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. His next match will be against Hong Kong’s Ng Kai Long Angus.

On the other hand, 2014 Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap lost to Chinese Taipei’s Su Li Yang 21-16, 21-17 in straight games. Disappointment came at the hands of India in women’s singles. Tanya Hemant had to bow out of the pre-quarter finals. She was defeated by world number four Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei 21-11, 21-6. While the Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy faced defeat in the round of 16. The Indian pair lost 21-13, 21-18 to Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Xiang Chieh and Lin Xiao Min.
