Dhaka; News Agency: After Najmul Hossain’s third century of his career, Bangladesh reached 362 for 5 at the end of the first day in the only Test against struggling Afghanistan. Najmool, who was in great form, played a brilliant knock of 146 runs off 175 balls. He was well supported by Mahmudul Hasan with an innings of 76 runs. It was Hasan’s third Test half-century in his career. The pair put on a 212-run partnership for the second wicket to give the team a strong start. At the end of the day, Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 41 while Mehdi Hasan Miraj remained unbeaten on 43. Day’s play was halted with 11 overs remaining due to dim light. (Najmul Hossain)

The Afghan team is playing in the absence of all-rounder Rashid Khan in this match and it was clear on the first day that the team is sorely missing him. He chose to field first on a green wicket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Debutant medium pacer Nijat Masood was the most successful bowler for Afghanistan. He took 2 wickets for 67 runs. Meanwhile, he celebrated his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Zakir Hasan on the first ball of the second over. (Najmul Hossain)
