A teenage girl’s death in northwest Delhi has become the subject of a police investigation after her decomposed body was discovered in an open field several days after the suspected incident.
Police said the body was found on September 13 near Kushak Road in Swaroop Nagar. Local residents alerted authorities after noticing the remains in the field. By the time police arrived, the body was reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition.
According to investigators, stray dogs had reached parts of the body. One hand was reportedly found separated from the remains. The decomposition was so extensive that police could not initially establish the gender of the deceased.
The investigation later established that the body belonged to a teenage girl. Police said medical examination confirmed sexual assault and investigators reported multiple stab injuries.
Police suspect that the crime took place around September 11, approximately two days before the body was discovered. However, the precise timeline remains part of the investigation.
According to police, the girl was acquainted with the people suspected of involvement. Investigators said she travelled with them in a tempo on the day of the suspected crime.
The family had not filed a missing-person report. Police said relatives explained that the girl sometimes left home and returned after several days, meaning that her absence had not immediately been treated as unusual.
The investigation initially lacked a direct eyewitness account. Police consequently began checking CCTV cameras installed along roads and around the suspected location.
Investigators reportedly examined footage from more than 50 cameras. During this exercise, a tempo was seen travelling near the area at a relevant time. Its registration number was not initially visible because of poor lighting.
Police followed the vehicle’s route across several cameras and eventually traced it to Khadda Colony. The driver was questioned, and police said the interrogation helped investigators identify three other suspects.
Four people were subsequently apprehended. The group included one adult and three juveniles. Police identified the adult suspect as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu. The three juveniles were reported to be aged 16 and 17.
Authorities said two knives, clothing allegedly connected with the suspects and the tempo were recovered.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and POCSO Act. Investigators are examining forensic material, CCTV footage and other technical evidence to determine the sequence of events.
Police are also looking into the exact role of each person who has been apprehended and whether additional individuals were involved.
The case has raised serious concerns because of the victim’s age and the circumstances in which her body was discovered. At the same time, investigators must establish the allegations through admissible evidence and the judicial process.
Further forensic findings and investigation updates are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and the alleged assault.
